The data on this series of pages covers the
basic steps for rebuilding the ICC 125cc
shifter engine. It is intended to offer a
look inside the engine for would be DIY’s.
It is not intended to be the final word on
engine rebuilding but rather a generalization
of steps and procedures required to rebuild
an ICC shifter kart engine. All engine technicians
have their own sequence of operations, methods
and personal touches for their customers.
If you decide to try a rebuild on your own
you will discover that there are other procedures
that will work as well for you.
The engine in the images is an
older TM K8 that happened to be available when
the data was gathered for publication. But it
is representative of most ICC engines in use
today. If the rookie technician gets familiar
with one make the others are very much the same.
For first timers recording steps
by writing notes to refer to may be helpful.
IMO the ICC engine is a fun engine to rebuild
and does not pose any real challenges beyond
the scope of a standard rebuild. The rebuild
of the crankshaft has been left out to keep
instructions simple and within the reach of
the apprentice re-builder. It will be covered
in a later issue of NKN. If you decide to give
